What are the advantages of a PIM?

The use of a PIM (product information management), data warehouse or merchant centre always makes sense when product data is required in different channels. First and foremost, of course, these can be different sales platforms such as online shops, Amazon, Ebay, otto.de and so on. However, data can also be tapped from the PIM for display on the website, as a source for catalogue creation (including eBooks), in a configurator, for an intranet or extranet or in a product database for customers and sales employees.

Normally, the ERP system remains the leading instance, from where the data is transferred to the PIM and enriched with additional information in various ways. The integrated middleware in the PIM can also be used to decide which articles are to be transferred to which output channel. It is also possible to enter different languages, images, videos and files in a PIM. It therefore forms the heart of effective digitalisation measures.
